A group of Berliners is working on a robotic bee. On the one hand they’ve been using software and various algorithms to suss out the actual language of the bee dance. Then they have a robot which manipulates a little bee dummy in imitation of the dance. They’ve tested it out actually trying to communicate with other bees, but no major milestones so far. Go to the link above to see photos of their robot, the plots and charts of bee dances, and a few videos of little bees shakin’ their thang.

If robotic bees weren’t scary enough, a London organization, Capital Bee, is trying to get them into your office. They’re offering free beehives to London based businesses. They offer to train staff on how to be beekeepers, and claim it’s been a morale boost for the employees in addition to all the eco benefits of more urban bees.

I can only assume the inevitable conclusion is swarms of robot bees doing our jobs one day. (Photo from Camera Bag).

I would have welcomed the bee overlords into my last office. They would have created a buzz, and at least one being (the queen bee, a female!) would have been in charge, rather than no one. They could have plugged the leaks in the ceilings too.

I don’t see any women on the Robot Bee team. BZZZZZZT.
